Vaginal Odour

It is defines as odour that originated from our vaginas. Normally, abnormal vaginal odour is associated with some signs and symptoms. For instance, itchiness, burning sensation, irritation or even several symptoms happening at the same time.

 

Vaginal odour is rather an embarrassing topic to discuss especially for those who experienced it in any moment of their lifetimes. I'm sure most of us experienced it before. You don't have to be shy because you are really not alone.

The smell of  V area is an indication of our health condition. Actually, it is normal that our vaginas will have slight odour but not a strong "fishy-like" smell. This not only will cause us uncomfortable and reduce our confidence. There is various type of vaginal infections but I will discuss 3 most common causes in this article.

 

Causes

1. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

The most common cause of unpleasant and fishy smell "down there". Women at any age can have it no matter teens or adult women. BV can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. However, females who have never been active in sexually activities have the possibility to be infected as well. It's caused by the imbalance of "good" and "bad" bacteria in the vagina due to hormone imbalance in the body or humidity.

It can be cured with antibiotics. The most obvious signs and symptoms for people who are infected BV is that they will notice milky or gray vaginal discharge associates with a fishy odour. The odour can become more serious during menstruation or after unprotected sexual intercourse.

 

2. Trichomoniasis

It is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or sexually transmitted infection (STI) which caused by parasite and widely spread via sexual contact. It affects both gender. Most of the time, patients who have the infections do not have obvious symptoms in the beginning stage. Those symptoms include: frothy discharge in green or yellow color, burning and discomfort during sex or unirination and itchy in genital area that will come after.

 

3. Yeast Infection

It is one type of vaginal yeast infections are common among women which caused by fungus Candida Albicans. It also known as Candidiasis. It happens when the balance of bacteria and yeast in our vagina changes. It will cause itchiness, swelling and irritation in our genital areas. Often at times, it can causes a thick white or yellow discharge appear. It is possible for a man to be infected with yeast infection as well after unprotect sexual contact even though yeast infection is not considered as a sexually-transmitted disease. Girls, please take note that yeast infection can be occur in women who are not active in sexually intercourse as well.

 

Remedies

Don't worry, girls. These fishy odour can be treated and heal. 

Here are several ways to get rid of it. If your problem is not solve after you apply these provided remedies, please get advices from doctors.

 

1. Don't douche

Douching is a good idea to get rid from bad vaginal odor. It might causes the condition to become worse than before because both healthy bacteria and yeast could be washed away when we are force water or cleaning agent into our uterus. Our vagina actually have their own natural cleaning and defensive mechanism.

 

2. Avoid wear tight panties

A tight panty brings a lot of harm to our V areas. It traps bacteria, sweat and moisture which can create a stronger odour. A tight pants or skinny jeans that have low air circulation would have the same effects on our vagina. Make a habit to wear looser-fitting underwear or well ventilated activewear for sport activities. It will be good for our blood circulation too.

 

 

3. Use feminine care product

Some of us assume that fishy odour is caused by cleaning. Hence, we will use body wash product to soap our V areas. However, body wash products contain harsh chemicals or strong scents will irritate the vagina and lead to infection indirectly. Wash with certified feminine care products instead.

 

4. Drink or eat yogurt

Yogurt is rich in natural beneficial bacteria that will benefit vagina. It helps balance the pH value of the vagina. It is the best natural method to heal, but it will take time for the effect to take place. As advice, plain yogurt is the best but you can consume any kinds as you desire.

 

5. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is high in lauric, capric, and caprylic acid. These active ingredients contain antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties which  is great fighter combating against bacteria and yeast infection. Coconut oil is also a natural lube with antioxidant and antistress effect on your body.
